I believe that one of the most, if not the most, pressing problem for the club is the recent haemorrhaging of members.  The recent resignation of Claire Dunning is a great loss to the club as was the unexpected loss of the club chairman and programme secretary.  The recruitment of new members should be a priority for next years committee.  It is nice to see some young members becoming regular attenders and we must encourage more of the same.  Any thoughts as to how to achieve that?

Couldn't agree more. This has to be a major focus for the club for the 2012-13 season. Publicity is one avenue - getting listed each week under "Upcoming events" in local newspapers and websites for a start. I am told there are no camera clubs in the Berkhamsted area - this is within easy reach of Chesham, so possibly worth exploring.

(I'm not sure Claire has finally left the Club - we are very much hoping she will rejoin us for the new season).

Yes, fully agree! I'm very encouraged by the interest taken by recent new members and the quality of photography they have brought to the club. We have discussed in committee having an open evening, possibly in late summer, as a recruitment drive. Another local club did this last year with results that far exceeded expectations. I know their chairman well and he's given me examples of what they did so I'll be sharing them with the new committee. Thanks for raising this very important issue John and we look to the membership for any other ideas for enhancing the club.

I have already discussed some ideas around this with Laurie but I think a good starting point is to have a deadline for Nikki to produce our club poster and for those members that have the facility to do so to put a poster up in their place of work.  I have already volunteered to do this and I'm sure that I won't be the only member who could drum up some interest in this way.

Another thought is could Chris encourage his school contacts to also put up posters in their 6th form common rooms etc as they take part in the schools trophy and it could be a good way to get at them early so to speak!!
