Last night (17 Jan) we had something different, a Members' Evening. It was an informal evening when Bryan showed an AV presentation of some photos he'd taken of the Fall in New Hampshire. Then followed another in our series of 50:50 competitions. After refreshments (thanks Ann) we were treated to a few secrets behind some amazing photos taken by our members. Thanks to all of you who contributed.

I thought the meeting was excellent. What do you think? Did the format appeal to you? Should we have more meetings like this in the future? Are there any other topics you'd like to see included, maybe live demonstrations?

Any comments welcomed!

I too thought the evening was very good and something that could be developed. At the moment, most evenings tend to be one way with either the evening's judge or presenter the only people providing the evening's verbal input. The club has a lot of talent, and perhaps we can use more of these evenings to discuss ideas for eg. club outing suggestions, club improvements, or give short presentations. For example, I would be prepared to give my thoughts on image sharpening/unsharp masking, and also suggestions to get images looking better in DPI competitions - anyone interested? (No response indicates no interest Smiley )

Yes - I agree - we have a lot of talent in the club and should encourage more discussions of members work & technique to help others to develop their own skills

On Tuesday 24th there was talk that we may try/do/have an A/V evening with members showing us what they hace done. I for one would be interested in this type of event. Theere would have to be some kind of time limit ( 3/4/5 minutes) on the presentations otherwise it can be a bit tedious. There could also be some guidance / instruction showing the members how to go about making their own presenttaions.
Could be fun.

I think we should have more practical evenings, although 50/50 competions are fun do we really need 3-4 per year??  Would it not make more sense to have someone with a good knowledge of photoshop for example be on hand to do demo's or answer 'How to' questions as how many times has a judge said "that would be easy to fix in photoshop" - but only if you know how!!  I also think that it would be a good idea to get the club more involved in AV work, this is virtually non existant from what I have observed and there are a lot of good clubs out there who we should be competing with  Smiley

Hello,   Smiley

There are a few members at the club that do AV themselves, Albert Geoff, John Cox and myself. We have had a talk last season by Les Spitz but he just showed us his presentations and not how they were put together. As far as I know they use different software to produce their work. Most popular I think would be ProShow Gold, this is very user freindly( it must be as I and Geoff Walker use it)There hasn't been any chance for them to show any of their work to the club. Maybe it would be a good opportunity on 17th April to have members bring along some images and work with members who have the software and show your efforts at the ned of the evening. I think this would be a fun learning evening. What do you think?
