Hi Gary,
You may need to change the time offset in your forum profile settings. Looks like you don't have one set so you are seeing local time as GMT (which is the server time). Go to Profile -> Preferences and set the Time Offset.

Yes, fully agree! I'm very encouraged by the interest taken by recent new members and the quality of photography they have brought to the club. We have discussed in committee having an open evening, possibly in late summer, as a recruitment drive. Another local club did this last year with results that far exceeded expectations. I know their chairman well and he's given me examples of what they did so I'll be sharing them with the new committee. Thanks for raising this very important issue John and we look to the membership for any other ideas for enhancing the club.

Here's a list of files received so far for Tuesday's Franklin and Hunt DPI Trophy Competitions. The list will be updated as and when new entries are received, provided they reach us before the deadline. If you have submitted an entry and it doesn't appear on this list, please contact the competition secretary (details on the website) as soon as possible.

General Category / General Discussion / Club competitions - General and Advanced
|

At a recent committee meeting we discussed whether two categories of competition entries are still needed, especially when we are a relatively small club. We all felt that there is curently very little difference in the quality of entries in both categories, and sometimes the General class entries seem superior to some in the Advanced class. However, the committee was split in its views. What do you think? If you are in the General category, would this affect whether you submitted entries in the future? Should those in General who win cups/trophies be made to move into Advanced class? Maybe even redefine General to include just beginners?

General Category / General Discussion / General Category Competitions - Print size
|

At a recent committee meeting, a question was asked about the print sizes allowed in the General section of our competitions. Currently the rules state:
Entries in General category competitions must not be presented larger than A4, excluding mount.
The committee was divided as to whether this rule was serving a useful purpose. What do you think? Should we keep things as they are or allow prints up to A3, the same as in the Advanced category?

General Category / Suggestions for Future Club Meetings / Members' Evening

Last night (17 Jan) we had something different, a Members' Evening. It was an informal evening when Bryan showed an AV presentation of some photos he'd taken of the Fall in New Hampshire. Then followed another in our series of 50:50 competitions. After refreshments (thanks Ann) we were treated to a few secrets behind some amazing photos taken by our members. Thanks to all of you who contributed.
I thought the meeting was excellent. What do you think? Did the format appeal to you? Should we have more meetings like this in the future? Are there any other topics you'd like to see included, maybe live demonstrations?
Any comments welcomed!

Hi Gary,
When you create a new topic (or reply to an existing one), click on "Additional Options" down at the bottom left. Then where it says "Attach" click on "Browse" and look for the file you want to display (on your computer). You'll need to have resized your photos beforehand so they are no bigger than 150kb. If that's too much of a limitation I can increase the limit, but it should be OK for our purposes, and it seems to work fine in the "Rate my photo" section.

I second that Gary! The winning Chiltern Trophy entry was very cleverly done - what a great idea for a subject. The layout was excellent too, nice and symmetrical. I also really like the 50:50 idea as it encourages more people to share their photos without feeling intimidated. It encourages those who may not wish to enter the more formal competitions, and because the prints are small, any sort of camera can be used, even those in mobile phones.

Thanks for the comments Laurie and Nige. I've played around with the settings a bit more and here's the result, taking into account the over-bright grass. Any better?
