2010 Chesham Schools’ Photographic Competition

For many years, Chesham Photographic Club has been encouraging local schools to participate in a digital photographic competition. The last two years has seen Chesham Grammar School and Chesham Park Community College battle it out for glory, with Chesham Grammar School taking the coveted title last year. Not to be outdone Chesham Park upped their game this year and were recently crowned winners of the 2010 competition. The winning image was taken by Year 12 student Sam Yates, who used his keen observation skills to turn a simple rubbish bin into an interesting and artistic abstract photographic image, which fully met the criteria of the ‘Set Subject’ of ‘Unusual Angles’.

Sam was the worthy winner of the Trophy (kindly donated by Julia Bradbury, the club’s Membership Secretary) and also the recipient of a Digital Camera, which was generously donated by KODAK. Along with Sam, five other students were selected to receive Highly Commended Certificates and these were recently presented along with the trophy and prizes at each school.

Highly Commended Certificates were awarded as follows:

Chesham Park Community College: Bonnie Power, Saad Mahmood
Chesham Grammar School: Alex Marsh, Anna Turnham, Colette Mead

The club was extremely encouraged by the keen interest shown in the competition by the two schools, who have both agreed to participate again next year. It is hoped that this will encourage more young people in the local community to take up the creative art of photography, which is now so much more accessible since the advent of digital technology.

Here are the winning photos from the 2010 competition.
