Open Evening for New Members

Last year’s event (2012)

On Tuesday 20 August 2013, from 8-10pm, Chesham Photographic Club will be hosting another open evening for prospective new members at the White Hill Centre where you can learn about our activities, meet some of our members, and maybe pick up some ideas. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore ways of taking photography in new directions, how to achieve images that really catch the eye, and to present them in interesting ways. Come and see what we do – and enjoy some refreshments!

Reasons to be Cheerful Art Trail

Saturday 6 – 20 April 2013

Chesham Photo Club is taking part in this year’s two week “Reasons to be Cheerful” art festival. There will be displays of prints created by our own members and exhibits by local artists in many shop windows, cafes and public buildings. The objective of the festival is to raise awareness of the many talented artists and photographers in Chesham.

Trail maps will be available in the Town Hall and Library. There will also be free drop-in art sessions on April 13 at the Adult Learning Centre (10am – 4pm) and on April 20 at the Town Hall (10am – 1pm). Chesham Lacemakers will be demonstrating at the Town Hall too.

Our prints will be on show in M & Co. An event not to be missed!

Members’ Evening

On Tuesday 22 January we had a very successful evening devoted to colour profiling (by Geoff and Laurie) and portraiture (by Carl). It is hoped to build on this with other similar tuition meetings in the future. If you have ideas for suitable topics feel free to “Leave a comment” in response to this post.

Geoff has kindly agreed to make his presentation available to us as a PDF, and you can find it in the Members’ area.

Photo Paper Direct

For the past couple of years Photo Paper Direct have offered our club members an exclusive camera club 5% discount. This same discount is being continued during 2013 and you can find the new discount code in the Members’ section of our website.

You might also be interested in their Facebook page as they regularly list weekly Facebook exclusive promotions.

Visit to DIY Framing

On Monday 15 October, 13 club members attended a free mount cutting demonstration evening organised by DIY Framing in High Wycombe. Richard covered many aspects of mounting, including choosing the right shape and proportions for the image being mounted, and two types of mounting: the hinge mount and the double mount.

Presentation Evening

Our opening meeting of the season included the much anticipated presentation ceremony postponed from last April. Tanya took photos of several of the recipients, including one of our Chairman Laurie (shown on the right of the picture) receiving his certificate from Chris, the club’s President.

Phil Receives RPS Award

Phil (left) receiving his award

Phil Ellis, our hardworking Treasurer and Webmaster has received a wonderful honour from the Royal Photographic Society. Phil was awarded the RPS Fenton Medal on 6 September 2012 at the Royal Society in London, where the Royal Photographic Society held their Annual Awards Ceremony.

The prestigious Fenton Medal award, established in 1980, is named after Roger Fenton, one of the Society’s founders, and is made to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the work of The Royal Photographic Society. The medal also carries with it honorary life membership of The Society.

Mr Roy Robertson (RPS President) presented the awards. Phil shared centre stage with Dr Brian May (the legendary guitarist from the rock group Queen) and Steve Sasson (widely acknowledged as the inventor of the first digital camera). Phil, who was accompanied by his wife Rosemary, said the day was a double celebration as it was also his wedding anniversary!

Full details of all the awards can be found on the RPS website

Congratulations Phil!

Open Evening Success

The club’s Open Evening was a big success with about 30 people attending (excluding club helpers). Thanks go to all involved, and we extend a special warm welcome to all those who came along to find out a bit more about us! We hope to see you again at the start of the new season on 4th September.

For any potential newcomers, whether or not you came to our Open Evening, you will be made most welcome at our meetings. We pride ourselves in being a friendly bunch, and whatever your level of knowledge, your photographic skills will improve just by mixing with fellow enthusiasts!
